BETHEL PARK. A modest gray house provides the backdrop for this family-run neighborhood bistro, where elegant French-inspired fare is the main attraction. Signature flatbreads come with several topping combinations such as boursin cheese and sundried tomato tapenade, or crab, mozzarella and pesto sauce. Zesty pastas, from the unusual Pasta Stack (boursin-stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon) to the Pasta Foody (sausage, sundried tomato, garlic and banana peppers in red wine sauce), are available as both mains and sides. Other flavorful dinner options include lamb chop, osso bucco and yellowfin tuna. Come from 5-6pm for $13 blue plates specials, which include a featured main dish, bread, salad, dessert and nonalcoholic beverage.

SOUTH SIDE. Café Allegro is one of Pittsburgh's most popular restaurants and, thanks to Chef Joe Nolan, the French and Italian fare has received numerous awards. The dining areas are wonderfully intimate, yet polished.

HIGHLAND PARK. Classic Highland Park bistro features two tastefully understated dining rooms, premier French cuisine and 150 wines.

SOUTH SIDE. Tucked behind the white linen drapes that hang from the tall windows at 2104 East Carson, is an authentic and cozy French spot complete with fireplace. The wine list here is well respected and breads are baked fresh on the premises. #13;#10;

DOWNTOWN. Modernized bistro chairs, white linen topped and a coordinating minimalist-style, bar counter occupy this dining room, lined with soft gray walls and gleaming hardwood floors. Behind a glass wall, the talented kitchen staff crafts exquisite pieces such as skate wing with white asparagus, peas, wild mushrooms and grilled ramps with champagne Caviar sauce. Other interesting courses include deconstructed chowder (smoked salmon, corn and potato hash) and venison chop with roasted corn polenta.
